The Berg Group welcomes Matt O’Connell to our team as Director of Procurement working from our headquarters in Chaska, MN. Matt has been a construction professional for 28 years and still feels grateful each day that he gets to participate in such an exciting industry. He has a B.A. in Economics from Saint John’s University and a Master of Business Administration from The University of Saint Thomas. Over his (almost) three decades of professional growth, he has been involved in construction at multiple levels. He started off in the trades as a Railroad Signalman during his undergrad years and transitioned into a Pipefitters apprenticeship. Over the next 2+ decades, he was in Project Management, Procurement, Supply Chain, and Executive Leadership roles in commercial, residential, and public utilities. Some of his previous companies include Centex, Mortenson, CenterPoint Energy, and Uponor.
While the term “construction industry” can generically cover many different fields, one thing remains universal: we create. We create amazing structures, and we create long-term relationships with our clients and the communities where they live. This process of creation is what excites Matt each day when he remembers that he is lucky enough to be a part of the “construction industry”.
Matt and his wife, Kate have three kids and have lived in Edina for the last 22 years. His hobbies include coaching his kids in their various sports ( he only has one left to coach), running, biking (mountain and road), and construction projects on their house.
